9am - 9pm Science & Engineering St. Anthony Falls Lab/National Center for Earth-surface Dynamics
This exhibit highlights a dam removal and river restoration project from the world-reknowned University of Minnesota St. Anthony Falls Laboratory and National Center for Earth-surface Dynamics. The exhibit will feature a scale model of the Elwha River in the state of Washington. After the dams were built in the early 1900s for hydroelectric power and flood control, it became apparant that they devasted the river’s salmon population. In 1994, it was decided that removal of the dams was the best option. Scientists here at the University of Minnesota are researching the best ways to remove the dam without damaging the ecosystem.

3 - 9pm Health Center for Lung Science and Health
Researchers, physicians and other health care professionals will be on hand to answer your questions related to lung science and health, disease and prevention. Possible topics include: Lung function and testing, treatments and procedures, environmental lung health, including tobacco control and cessation and diseases such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, and lung cancer and sleep disordered breathing/sleep apnea. Selected activities include: Ask the Doctor, Samples or models, Test Your Knowledge/Trivia Quiz, Lung Function Testing, Interactive Demonstrations, Tissue or Lab samples, Asthma Control Questionnaire, Asthma Study Recruitment, COPD: Are You at Risk?
